MARANG: PAS President Tian Guru Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has indicated that he may not assume the position of Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman following Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation.

The Marang MP said the PAS central committee will meet next week to discuss potential candidates for the coalition’s top post.

“We will leave it to the PAS central leadership to choose a candidate, but it is not necessarily me,” he said after delivering a Dhuha lecture at Masjid Rusila today.

Muhyiddin, the Pagoh MP, officially stepped down from the role late last month. Hadi said the delay in appointing a new chairman is partly due to the coalition currently lacking a Secretary-General after Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali resigned.

“The central committee relies on me heavily, but I am leaving the choice of PN chairman to the leadership,” he added.

In a separate matter, Hadi confirmed that PAS has rejected an offer from Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Abu Bakar Hamzah for its assemblymen to join the State Executive Council (EXCO).
