KUALA TERENGGANU – Two brothers employed as construction workers pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court to offering a RM1,850 bribe to a police officer last Thursday to refrain from taking action against them for drug possession.
Nik Fairoz Amri Nik Soh, 27, and Nik Auzan (rpt) Auzan Haris, 25, were charged with offering the money to Inspector Mohd Hafizul Ashraff Mohammed from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Kuala Terengganu District Police Headquarters at a hotel room in Kuala Ibai.
The brothers, from Kuala Berang, Hulu Terengganu, face a maximum jail term of 20 years and a fine of five times the bribe amount or RM10,000, whichever is the higher, upon conviction.
Judge Wan Fadhilah Wan Idris set bail at RM8,000 with one surety for each of them and fixed Nov 19 for mention. The siblings did not post bail.
The brothers are being held under remand for investigation into possession of drugs under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.- BERNAMA
