The Registrar of Societies (RoS) Deny Practising Double Standards

Jasri Kasim

The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has denied a suggestion that it was practising double standards when it ruled against Umno’s postponement of party polls.

RoS director-general Jasri Kasim said PAS had decided to postpone its party elections when it was still valid to do so.

“PAS submitted the request to postpone before the expiry of its current term,” he told MalaysiaNow.

Yesterday, Najib questioned the RoS which said Umno’s decision to delay polls by 18 months was invalid, and that the current office holders had completed the 2018/2021 term on June 30.

The former Umno president said a similar move was made by PAS without any action from the RoS.

PAS had also announced that it was postponing its polls, which were last held in June 2019, until after the next general election.

Meanwhile, RoS’ ruling that the Umno Supreme Council’s term had already expired on June 30 could have implications for party decisions made after the date.

When asked, Jasri said it would require a careful study of the party’s constitution before comment could be made.
