Son in Quarrel with Fiancée, Stabs Father Who Intervened

KUALA TERENGGANU: A 55-year-old man broke his rib after being stabbed by his son during a quarrel in front of their home in Kampung Seberang Takir here last night.

State Criminal Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner K Manoharan said in the 9pm incident, the victim saw his 22-year-old son quarreling with his fiancee infront of their house and advise him.

Manoharan said the son then scolded his father and asked him not to interfere as the father tried to calm down the quarelling couple.

He said the victim fell down in a pool of blood after he was believed to have been stabbed with a knife during the commotion.

“The victim’s other children then came to their father’s aid and attacked the suspect.

“They then sent the victim to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah hospital ( HSNZ) for treatment,” he said.

A health officer at the HSNZ lodged a report about the incident at the hospital’s police beat base at 9.30pm.

Manoharan said the victim suffered serious injuries from a stab wound to his abdomen and broke a rib.

He said the suspect was arrested when he arrived at the hospital to seek treatment for the bruises he suffered during the incident at 1.30 am today.

“The suspectwas tested positive for morphine and has been remanded for seven days to assist investigation,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for causing hurt and if convicted, the suspect could face up to 20 years imprisonment and caned.-NST
