KUALA TERENGGANU: A sales assistant who tried to prevent a stranger from entering the upper levels of a textile shop, where the hostel for female workers was, ended up being brutally murdered instead.

The stranger, suspected to be deranged, stabbed Wan Manisah Wan Mansor, 27, to death in the 8pm tragedy on Wednesday at the shop in Paya Keladi here.

Wan Manisah was attending to customers when the man barged into the shop.

He wanted to go to the upper levels where the female workers’ hostel was located.

Wan Manisah tried to prevent him from going up the stairs and she was taken by surprise when the man suddenly grabbed her and dragged her to the front of the shop.

It is learnt the man hit her head on the pavement before stabbing her back six times.

Her colleagues rushed her to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital but she died at about 2.05am.

Terengganu CID chief Asst Comm K. Manoharan said police detained the 28-year-old suspect at about 4.30pm near Pasar Payang here.

“We believe the man is deranged. He was often seen wandering around aimlessly near Paya Keladi and near the bus station in town,” he said.

He added that police also seized the weapon used. The case has been classified under Section 302 of the penal code for murder.

The victim’s father Wan Mansor Wan Muda, 50, said he could not understand why the man targeted his daughter.

“She was a good daughter and pleasant to everyone. She deserved better than this,” he said.-TheStarOnline
