KUALA TERENGGANU – A Public Works Department assistant engineer was charged today with deceiving his former employer in the installation of a carpet at a surau near here.
Syed Ahmad Izzuddin Syed Abdulah, 33, was charged with commiting the offence when he was an assistant development engineer with the Terengganu Malay Customs and Islamic Religious Council on Dec 29, 2015.
Izzuddin was alleged to have falsely submitted a claim of RM6,400 for the laying of the carpet by Syarikat ADRI Calibre Enterprise at the Al-Hijrah Surau in Tok Adis.
He was charged under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 (Act 694) which is punishable under Section 24 of the same Act. If convicted, Izzuddin can be jailed 20 years and fined five times the amount involved or be slapped with a maximum fine of RM10,000.
Sessions court judge Mohamad Haidar Abdul Aziz set bail at RM6,000 and ordered for re-mention of the case on March 20.
Deputy public prosecutor Shahida Muslimah Roslan from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission prosecuted, while Izzuddin was represented by counsel Nik Radhia Nik Ya.-nst.
