PAS Syura Council has directed the party’s central committee (CC) to abide by the orders of the party president Datuk Seri Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang.
In a statement issued hours after the CC met on Sunday, the Council said it reminded the CC of Article 26 (9)(m) of the party’s constitution to abide by the decisions of the president.
“The Syura Council met today and decided that the president has the final say on all matters that is of interest to the party,” the council said.
“It is the responsibility of the central committee members to carry out their duties and uphold the president’s directives,” it said in a statement released after the meeting.
The Syura Council’s meeting came after the CC members had their own meeting in Kuala Lumpur.
However, after the CC meeting, deputy president Mohamad Sabu told a press conference that PAS would not accept the post of Mentri Besar even if the Sultan of Selangor chose one of the party’s candidates nominated by the President.
Ustaz Abdul Hadi had ruled out the central committee’s earlier decision to nominate only two PKR candidates for the post and he is believed to have submitted three PAS executive council members names to the palace for consideration.
PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali, who was also present at the press conference, said the party had decided to maintain that PKR owned the prerogative to name the mentri besar.
