A lorry attendant, en-route to delivering oil palm fruits, suddenly ran amuk here last night, endangering the lives of passers-by.
The 30-year-old was accompanying the 58-year-old driver to deliver the consignment when upon reaching Kampung Sungai Tong in Setiu, he became aggressive and grabbed his colleague’s hand.
State CID chief ACP K. Manoharan said in the incident about 9pm, the driver panicked and stoppped the lorry by the road-shoulder at Kampung Felda Belara in Tepoh near here and fled.
He said the attendant meanwhile, began shattering the windscreen of the lorry before alighting.
“He then ran towards a trailer lorry which was left unattended and took over the wheel, only to crash into a car at the Batu Enam roundabout at 10.15pm.
“At that juncture, the man rushed out of the lorry with a metal rod and began striking at passing vehicles before hitting a motorcyclist and riding away with his machine to Kampung Bukit Tunggal here.
“Here, the attendant collided with another motorcycle before he was apprehended by the public,” he told reporters here today.
Manoharan said the suspect who sustained head and body injuries in the collision was warded at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital here, together with the motorcycle owner who was earlier hit by the attendant. – Bernama
