PAS has nothing left to discuss with PKR over which party should contest in the June 18 twin by-elections, the Islamist party’s Youth chief Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz insisted today.
He said his party is adamant on fielding its candidates for both the Sungai Besar, Selangor and Kuala Kangsar, Perak parliamentary seats, despite overtures from PKR.
“The negotiations ended some days ago. We will make an announcement (on candidates) soon. Only Pakatan Harapan has not made their own decision,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.
PKR, which is eyeing to contest one of the two parliamentary seats, has maintained that it is negotiating with PAS in efforts to avoid a multi-cornered fight that could split votes among opposition parties, benefitting the Barisan Nasional coalition.
Complicating matters, PAS offshoot and PKR’s political ally in the Pakatan Harapan pact, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), is also keen to contest in both seats.
Nik Mohamad Abduh said his party has made it very clear from the start that it will field its candidates in both suburban seats and will not budge even if it turns into a three-way contest.
“We are ready regardless of whether it is a two-cornered or three-cornered contest,” he added.
He said PAS’s new partner, Parti Ikatan Bangsa, will help it campaign in the coming by-elections.-themalaymailonline.
