KUALA NERUS – PAS is willing to work with any organisation, including Pakatan Harapan, in the 14th general election (GE14) provided it is accorded due respect.
PAS president Datuk Seri Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang said that the party was still one to be reckoned with and has 7,000 branches nationwide.
“We are not attempting to instil fear into other parties. All we ask is for them to respect our views as we have been around for so long in politics,” he said during a dialogue with non-governmental organisations in conjunction with the ‘Fastaqim 2.0: Himpunan 200K’ political rally at the Kuala Terengganu Golf Club.
The rally, which is said to have drawn 200,000 people, is being held over two days, beginning Friday, as the party gears up for GE14.
Hadi said that Pas stands firm on its own political platform and is open to discussions with NGOs and any political party.
“We are still open for discussions with Pakatan Harapan but at the same time, we are moving on with our own ideals.
“There is no need for others to speak on behalf of us. There are many professionals among our members and I am sure they can judge our leadership, instead of being duped by other parties,” said Hadi.
He warned that parties that do not cooperate with Pas stood to lose out as the party still commanded a large following.
He added that Pas was ready for GE14 and would launch its election machinery on Saturday.
Hadi urged the party’s members to actively participate in politics although the party did not force them to do so.
“We are closely monitoring the political developments and are confident of securing a good measure of success in the 14th GE,” he said. – NST
