PAS Willing to Work With Others

While PAS is willing to work with other parties, it will not join political forces with them, said party information chief Nasaruddin Tantawi.

He said he agreed with the Syura Council’s decision on Saturday allowing PAS’ cooperation with any party as long as it is in the interest of the Muslim community as a whole.

“I support the Syura Council’s decision if the cooperation is for the good of the ummah.

“However, it does not mean that the party will join that coalition,” he told The Star.

The decision by the council, which serves as the policy advisory body for PAS, came after recent talk of cooperation between Umno and PAS on common issues affecting religion and the nation’s Muslim community.

On Dec 23, PAS vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said the party would cooperate with Umno and other parties for Muslim unity but this would not mean PAS was willing to join Barisan Nasional.-thestaronline
