PAS: Don’t ‘Blindly Support’ Boycott Call

The Government should be asked to reduce the price of controlled items, rather than giving “blind support” to calls for a boycott of businesses which refuse to reduce their prices, said Datuk Mahfuz Omar (pic).

The PAS information chief was referring to 92 Umno division leaders who supported Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s boycott call.

IMG-20150205-WA0024Urging the group to “wake up from their made-up slumber”, Mahfuz said they should be equally brave to urge the Government to reduce the price of items under their control.

“Why can’t they be brave enough to call for the Government to reduce the price of controlled items such as sugar, wheat flour, cooking oil and cooking gas?

“To date, the Government has yet to announce the reduction of these prices. Will they boycott the Government if there are no changes?” he told reporters at PAS’ headquarters here, Thursday.

On Wednesday, 92 Umno division leaders threw their support behind Ismail, who is also the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister, over his call for consumers to boycott traders.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Ismail allegedly called on Malay consumers to boycott Chinese businesses that deliberately kept their prices high despite a drop in fuel prices.

Mahfuz said the group should instead base their arguments on fact, and not support the call blindly.

“Don’t just support blindly like a person who is drunk on toddy,” he said.-thestaronline
