The body of a state land officer, who went missing on Friday, has been found at a river in Hulu Terengganu, some 5km from his car.

The body of Wan Hariff Rafany Wan Muda (pic), 35, from the Kuala Terengganu land office, was discovered by three teenagers fishing in Sungai Kampung Tajin at around 10.30am yesterday.

From its bloated condition, the body, clad in an orange T-shirt and dark blue track pants, was believed to have been in the river for over 24 hours.

wanWan Hariff’s car keys were found in one of the pockets.

Terengganu CID chief ACP K. Manoharan said the teenagers had called the police upon spotting the body in the river. Last Saturday, police had found Wan Hariff Rafany’s car, an Audi A4, parked near the Syarikat Air Terengganu Sdn Bhd office in Kuala Berang at 9.30pm after his wife lodged a missing person report on the same day.

“The location of the car and where the body was found was about 4km to 5km apart,” said ACP Manoharan, adding that Wan Hariff had been missing since Friday morning.

Wan Hariff, according to ACP Manoharan, had been attached with the land acquisition unit of the Kuala Terengganu land office.

At the Sultanah Nur Zahirah hospital, his father, Wan Muda Wan Ibrahim, 64, described his son as a “good man” and a friendly person.

“I last saw him a week ago and he was supposed to come to Besut for a kenduri on Saturday.

“It is a great loss for the family,” said Wan Muda, an imam at a mosque in Besut.

Wan Hariff leaves behind a wife, 33, a six-year-old daughter and a four-year-old son.
