The Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organisations plans to file a case on the Rohingya issue in Myanmar with the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
Mapim chairman Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid said the council was compiling information on the atrocities against the minority Muslim community in northern Rakhine to support the case.
He also said that one of the NGOs that Mapim had consulted on the case was the Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) based in London.
“Mapim is compiling evidence with the help of the Rohingya community in Malaysia and Arakan, Myanmar,” he said to reporters after a Rohingya solidarity programme at the Sultan Azlan Shah Mosque here yesterday.
Mohd Azmi said Mapim also called on the Malaysian government to apply pressure on international organisations to take stern action against Myanmar.
In Parit, Perak deputy mufti Zamri Hashim said Muslims in Malaysia should take a lesson from the atrocities against the Rohingya to resolve to strengthen solidarity of the ummah.
He spoke to reporters after performing the ground-breaking for the second phase of a madrasah in Kampung Seri Kaya, Bota Kiri, today. The RM2.3-million project is scheduled for completion at the end of next year.
Zamri said the state-level Rohingya Solidarity Fund launched last night would seek contributions from over 600 mosques and 30 suraus on Friday. ― Bernama
