Malaysia’s 2010 BOP records RM2.7b deficit

It said the current account balance for Malaysia registered a lower net surplus by RM21.6 billion or 19.3% lower to RM90.5 billion while the financial account recorded a lower net outflow of RM21.9 billion compared to RM80.2 billion in 2009.

The department said the decline in the current account balance was due to higher net payments on income account of RM25.2 billion, lower surplus on goods of RM136.6 billion, lower net receipts on the services account of RM900 million and higher outlay of current transfers of RM21.7 billion.

During the fourth quarter of 2010, the overall balance recorded a surplus of RM17.8 billion from the RM1 billion recorded during the third quarter of the same year,it said in a statement here today.

The department said the current account which remained positive with a surplus of RM23.9 billion, rose by RM4 billion or 20.1% while the financial account recorded an inflow of RM1.5 billion, a turnaround from an outflow of RM4.7 billion previously. — Bernama
