KOTA BARU (March 7, 2011): The PAS state government maintains its stand to ban all forms of gambling including welfare lottery in Kelantan although there is pressure from its ally, DAP, to revoke the ban.

Chairman of the State Committee on Local Government, Tourism and Culture Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said the state government would not change its decision because gambling had never been accepted by the followers of any religion.

Thus, he invited DAP chairman Karpal Singh to come to Kelantan to see for himself how Islamic administration was being practised, including the ban on gambling which could ensure prosperity and prevent social problems.

Takiyuddin also invited MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek and a member of the MCA central committee, Datuk Ti Lian Ker, for a dialogue on the banning on the sale of Big Sweep lottery tickets in the state.

“We cannot compromise on gambling which is also banned by other religions too,” he said when contacted, here today. — Bernama
