HULU SELANGOR, April 21 (Bernama) — The Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) candidate for Sunday’s Hulu Selangor parliamentary by-election, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, wants the Election Commission (EC) to further clarify the polling centre change for about 13,000 voters in this vast constituency.

Zaid, who is facing Barisan Nasional’s P. Kamalanathan, said the answer given by the EC was not satisfactory.

“We are having an election to pick an elected representative but how come so many names have been changed. The EC should be more responsible and provide answers to the questions we had posed,” he told a news conference at the Kuala Kubu Baharu PKR media centre on Wednesday.

He said the professional thing for the EC to do would have been to notify all political parties of the change and all voters of the polling centre transfer.

On Monday, EC deputy chairman Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar clarified that the polling centre change for more than 13,000 voters was to avoid congestion at poling stations and that it was a normal exercise carried out not only in Hulu Selangor but also nationwide from time to time.

Wan Ahmad had said that the locality correction was made in accordance with Section 7 of the Elections Act 1958 after taking public order into account as previous polling stations were no longer suitable, and the relocation was not to deny victory to the opposition as claimed.

On another note, Zaid said he had a fair chance of winning the by-election.

“We have four more days to go and we are getting stronger by the day. I want to win…I want to win this,” he added.
