Universiti Malaya (UM) analyst Professor Datuk Mohd Abu Bakar said while it was obvious that the hudud issue had caused disquiet in PR, and that this could further the agenda of some conservatives bent on wanting PAS to part, the grassroots would likely block such move by ensuring the professionals stay in power in June.

61400202900_295x200“I think the party knows that it stands to lose if goes for the zero-sum game. They understand having both the progressives and ulama in the leadership will benefit the party,” he told Malay Mail Online.

The UM professor also said that one of the ways for PR to solve the hudud debacle was to allow PAS to try and implement hudud since the agenda predates the party’s entrance into the opposition pact.

“Why don’t DAP just let PAS do it. They should recognise that this is different (than wanting to implement hudud nationally). DAP shouldn’t prejudge the plan,” he said.
