KUALA TERENGGANU: A 24-year-old housewife was jailed a month by the magistrate’s court yesterday for hitting her elder sister with a lesung batu (pestle).
Magistrate Noradila Ab. Latif sentenced Nor Zuriati Mahmud after she pleaded guilty to assaulting and causing hurt to her sister in front of her house at Taman Semarak, Jalan Tengku Mizan, about 11pm on June 18.
Counsel Mohd Hayyatuddin Mohammad applied for a light sentence as the accused did not have any previous conviction and she admitted she had acted foolishly and regretted her action.
She said Nor Zuriati was breaking up a scuffle between her sister Norsabarita, 25, and mother.
Norsabarita was said to have gone to Zuriati’s house to retrieve some personal belongings.
The victim was met by her mother outside the house before they got into a scuffle, while the accused came out with the pestle and hit her.
Inspector Miky Dustan prosecuted.
Noradila ordered the sentence to begin from June 19 when she was arrested.
