Heavy Rain Causes More People to Evacuate

KUALA TERENGGANU – Downpour in several parts of the state last night saw the number of flood victims evacuated to rise to 35,951 people from 8,805 families this morning compared to 34,597 people from 8, 573 families yesterday.

However, a relief centre in Kemaman has been closed today leaving the number to 95 centres.

Terengganu also recorded five deaths following the recovery of the body of Shuhaimi Awang, 37, who went missing during a boat mishap in Kampung Geliga last Wednesday.

As at 7am, State Welfare Department portal stated that Kemaman still has the highest number of evacuees with 24,221 victims from 5,731 families at 45 relief centres.

This followed by Dungun with 10,684 people from 2,812 families were at 37 relief centres.

In Kuala Terengganu, 810 victims from 207 families sought shelter at seven relief centres and in Hulu Terengganu 205 victims from 48 families were moved to five relief centres.nst

Besut has a sole relief centre which housed 31 victims from seven families.
