KUALA TERENGGANU, Aug 21 – The Terengganu Poultry Breeders Association Sunday urged the government to review the ceiling price for chicken as the production cost now had increased.
Its secretary Shamsudin Wahab said that the association’s members were incurring losses and may have to wind up because of the existing ceiling price.
“The government set the ceiling price of standard chicken at RM6.35 per kilogramme but the retail price of standard chicken is now RM7.20 per kg,” he told reporters here.
Shamsudin said chicken breeders in the state also have to buy chicks at higher prices during festive season, now at RM2.20 for a chick as compared to RM1.10 and RM1.20 each previously.
“This does not include the price of chicken feed that often increases over time,” he said. – BERNAMA
