KUALA TERENGGANU — The Sessions Court here today sentenced a former administrative assistant of the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to three years in prison and RM15,000 fine, in default two months’ imprisonment, for criminal breach of trust.
Judge Asmadi Hashim handed down the sentence after Sahaslina Mat Yazid, 30, pleaded guilty and ordered the sentence to run from the date of arrest on Dec 30, last year.
Sahaslina was alleged to have committed the offence involving collection of motor vehicle licence payments, amounting to RM14,452 at the Vehicle Licensing Division counter, Level 1, Terengganu RTD, here from 8 am to 5 pm between June 1 and Oct 15, 2014.
In mitigation, counsel Puteri Hikmatul Raudah Dzulaikha Mohamad who represented Sahaslina appealed for a lighter sentence as the accused had two children, aged six and four years.
She said the accused committed the offence as she was in need of money for her daily living expenses.
However, deputy public prosecutor Nazlyza Mohamad Nazi said the act was wrong and could not be justified, furthermore the accused was earning a monthly income salary of RM1,500.
Nazlyza added that by the accused cancelling 25 vehicle licenses without the customers’ knowledge, it would have caused much hardship to them, should they need to claim for damages in case of an accident. — Bernama
