KUALA TERENGGANU — Former PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali said he felt that PAS would be unable to go it alone without an understanding with the Pakatan Rakyat partners if it wants to take over the federal government.
“I feel that going it alone is not the best choice and strategy in the context of Malaysian politics,” he said when met at the Terengganu PAS Liaison Committee office here today.
Mustafa, who has been appointed the PAS election director, said the cooperation worked out among PAS and its coalition partners by former PAS spiritual leader the late Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat and former PAS president the late Datuk Fadzil Noor should not be dismantled.
“We have to find an alternative because no one party can rule on its own (to form the government) in Malaysia. Even Umno cannot administer on its own. It has to have its partners in the BN (Barisan Nasional),” he said.
On PAS’ position in the opposition pact, Mustafa said PAS, DAP or PKR cannot go it alone and should remain in the coalition.
Asked about the possibility of disgruntled PAS members setting up a new party, he said that such a party would have an impact on PAS.
