SUNGAI BESAR: PAS is dead set in calling its splinter party, Parti Amanah Negara with its acronym ‘PAN’ rather than ‘Amanah’.
Selangor PAS women chief Wan Hasrina Wan Hassan said there is nothing ‘amanah’ (trustworthy) about the party, whose leaders were once part of PAS.
“Why should we call them ‘Amanah’? They betrayed our trust and struggle by forming a new party,” she told a ceramah near Pasir Panjang here, Friday night.
She said the leaders “took away” the seats they contested and won on PAS tickets last General Election.
“They should vacant the seats they contested under PAS tickets and re-contest the seats under PAN and see if they get the support from the people,” said Wan Hasrina.
She said the seats that were “stolen” include Shah Alam, Sepang, Kota Raja, Hulu Klang and Morib.
“Don’t tell us to call you Amanah when you were the ones betrayed the party,” she said.
Perak Amanah chief Asmuni Awi had reportedly threatened the media with a ban if they refer the party as ‘PAN’.
He said it was “unprofessional” for them to do so as the name ‘Amanah’ has been acknowledged by the Registrar of Societies and using ‘PAN’ would confuse the public.
