Former Selangor PAS executive councillor Sallehin Mukhyi has told DAP not to accuse them of being ‘traitors’ for remaining in the state government headed by former Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

The Sabak assemblyman, who attended the swearing-in ceremony of a new Mentri Besar Azmin Ali at Alam Shah Palace here Tuesday, said it was not fair for DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng to make such remark as their decision was made in the interest of the people.

“I believe Lim does not understand the state enactment where at least four exco members are needed to carry on the state administration duties until a new appointment of a Mentri Besar is made,” he told reporters Tuesday.

He said having to retain the state administration was the Pakatan Rakyat’s final bastion in the state government.

“He (Lim) should review his remark.

“That was his political statement as he had his own interest in defending the Penang state government.

“So, don’t label us as traitors,” he said.

DAP had on Monday, said that the party regretted the four exco’s decision not to step down in solidarity with the six sacked exco members from PKR and DAP.

“DAP expresses regret at the four PAS exco members for their betrayal of the principles of solidarity and democracy as well as failing to stand loyally together with the six DAP and PKR excos who were unjustly sacked by the previous Mentri Besar who had lost majority support of the state assembly,” said Lim, in a statement.

However, Sallehin who was in charge of Islamic affairs, said it was up to the Pakatan leadership to decide on the new line-up.

“I hope that PAS would retain our positions as each of us already has plans in executing state policies and it is better for us to just continue with our duties,” he said, adding that he did not mind if he was not reappointed.

He also added that the Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had thanked the former PAS exco members for choosing to remain with Tan Sri Khalid so they could continue serving the people until a new Mentri Besar was sworn in.-thestaronline
