Cop Charged With Soliciting Bribe From Motorcyclist

KUALA TERENGGANU: A policeman was caught trying to solicit a bribe in exchange for turning a blind eye to an offence committed by a motorcyclist.

Kpl Ruslan Deraman was charged at the Kuala Terengganu Sessions Court for soliciting RM500 from the motorcyclist in February last year at the Wakaf Tapai police station in Marang.

Ruslan, who was unrepresented, pleaded not guilty before Judge Azman Mustapha to violating Section 16(a)(B) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.

He faces a prison term of not exceeding 20 years and a fine equivalent to five times the amount of the graft or RM10,000, whichever is higher, if convicted.

The judge then set bail was set at RM5,000 with one surety and fixed March 16 for the case to be mentioned. – .thestar
