DAP and PKR should support the proposed amendments to the Kelantan hudud bill or risk Pakatan Rakyat splitting up, in what appears to be PAS’ final warning to its allies as it prepares to table the controversial bill on Wednesday.

PAS vice-president Datuk Ustaz Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the Islamist party should get the backing from its partners as the Islamic criminal law is the right of the Muslims and does not apply to non-Muslims.

“Moreover, we have gone through a democratic process, which is our common struggle,” he wrote on his Facebook page on Sunday.

He said it was an obligation for Muslims to live by Islamic laws, regardless of their political beliefs.

“If Umno states its support for the enactment, it is not a sign that it wants to unite with PAS. All Muslims are obliged to accept and support this law,” said Tuan Ibrahim.

He also assured PKR and DAP that despite differences of opinion in some areas, Umno and Barisan Nasional remained as their common political rivals.

The Kelantan state government reportedly plans to table the amendments to its Syariah Criminal Code Enactment II 1993 at the state legislative assembly on Wednesday.

PAS implementation of hudud is facing staunch objection from DAP, stressing that the move is against Pakatan’s common policy framework.-thestaronline
