KUALA TERENGGANU, July 13 (Bernama) — The Terengganu office of the Election Commission registered 585,366 new voters up to March this year.
Terengganu Election Director Mohd Nor Daud said 91.4 per cent of the 640,667 voters aged 21 years and above had been registered.
He said the registration was carried out by assistant registrars of voters for representatives of political parties in all districts monitored by the Election Commission every month.
The registration was carried out at post offices, state election offices through the outreach programme where the commission opens registration counters at popular public places such as supermarkets, night markets and so on.
“However, as at March 2011, there was more than 8.6 per cent or 55,301 who have yet to register as voters especially those who have just reached the age of 21,” he told Bernama at his office on Wednesday.
