BESUT – A four year-old boy died after a coconut tree being cut down by a neighbour fell on him in Kampung Gong Dasar, Jabi near here yesterday.
Besut district police chief Supt Kamaruddin Mohd Zakaria said the victim was identified as Muhammad Faiz Hakimi Aziz, the youngest of eight siblings.
He said before the tragedy, Faiz was watching people cutting down coconut trees deemed dangerous as they were leaning towards a neighbour’s house.
Faiz’s mother, Rogayah Mohamad, 41, was among those who witnessed the cutting down of coconut trees at about 3.15pm.
“As a coconut tree was falling down, Faiz suddenly ran across towards his mother and was pinned underneath the tree,” Kamaruddin told reporters here today.
Faiz who was seriously injured in the head and body was rushed to Besut District Hospital by family members but was confirmed dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, Rogayah said Faiz acted strangely over the last few days when he did not want to sleep with but slept together with the other siblings.
“Faiz also refused to be fed in the morning although I did not feed him over the past few days,” she added. – BERNAMA
