KUALA TERENGGANU — A 400 metre of the 100 metre-long covered-walkway at Jalan Kampung Daik near the Pasar Besar Kedai Payang here has been closed to the public from today when a quarter of its roof collapsed.
Kuala Terengganu Mayor Samiun Salleh said the closure of walkway had to be closed to facilitate investigation to determine the cause of the collapse which occurred during a thunderstorm.
He said all the pillars supporting the roof at the walkway were broken.
“Alhamdulillah, no one was injured in the incident,” he told reporters after visiting the site.
The walkway was built at a cost of RM600,000, which was provided by the Housing and Local Government Ministry under the “Urban Wellbeing” programme and was opened in June 2015.- BERNAMA
