MARANG – A paraglider is feared to have drowned following a crash into the sea near Pulau Kerengga here at about 6.35pm on Wednesday.
A Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said that a passer-by had seen a parachute floating in the water, but failed to locate the paraglider.
The spokesperson said that a 39-man search-and-rescue team was launched, made up of personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department, police, and the Civil Defence Force.
He however added that the search operation had to be called off as the sea conditions was rough with dangerous high waves.
The spokesman added that personnel from the Marang Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the location at about 6.43pm.
“A caller had informed us that he saw a paramotor had plunged into the sea about two kilometres from the shore and that it sank there,” said the spokesman.
