PENGKALAN CHEPA – Datuk Seri Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Hadi Awang has hit out at DAP for not being able to “negotiate issues relating to religion” saying its lawmakers “are just creating chaos” over his Private Member’s Bill on Syariah court amendments.

“If they can negotiate on the Penang bridge then why not religious issues?” the PAS president said.

“When the Bill was read, they asked for members of parliament to vote so that it won’t be included in the order for the next (parliamentary) meeting.

“It was not even debated and they called for a vote. What to vote now? They are just creating chaos,” Hadi said in his winding up speech at the party’s annual general assembly on Friday.

Hadi said DAP should not be affected by the Bill which is meant to strengthen the Syariah courts as “it doesn’t affect them” and has nothing to do with non-Muslims.

“This is an Islamic issue involving Muslims, why does DAP want to be a busybody?” he said.

Hadi also criticised other non-Muslim parties whom he said made a big deal out of the Bill.

Hadi, the Marang MP, said it was “better to get something rather than nothing” in tabling the Bill.

“You don’t get everything but something. God willing we will get to unite Muslims and work towards further improvements,” he said.

Hadi reiterated his theme of “mature and harmonious politics” that were raised many times during the three-day AGM, and the need to reach out to as many people who share the common ground.

“It is better to make many friends than making many enemies. We will work with those who share the common ground and will forgive differences if possible,” he said.

On the party’s candidates for the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections, Hadi said there was no way for the party to please everyone.

“We cannot 100 percent satisfy everyone in the party but whatever decision we make is good for the party.

“Trust the party leadership, we will only make decisions that is good for the party,” he said.- source thestaronline
