KUALA NERUS – PAS president Datuk Seri Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang asserted today that the Islamic party would not join forces with Umno in the troubled state of Terengganu.
He added that the formation of such a unity government should not merely be a decision borne out of necessity but instead an intentional move.
“No way!” he said when asked if PAS and Umno would form a unity government in Terengganu.
“The reason (to form a unity government) has to be sincere, not because of a state of emergency. This state of emergency, cannot,” he said after attending a dinner oergansed by Kumpulan Aktivis Media Indipenden (KAMI) here at Tok Jembal, last night.
On Monday, national newswire Bernama reported a statement issued by the Comptroller of the Royal Household, Office of His Royal Highness the Sultan of Terengganu, that Terengganu Mentri Besar Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman’s titles were stripped.
No reasons were given but the statement sparked speculation on possible changes in the state leadership.
However the Malay Mail Online reported on Thursday that several elected representatives agreed that the decision was no surprise and was a long time coming.
PAS has repeatedly denied that it will form a pact with Umno amid speculation over the Islamic party’s warming ties with its political rival, but insisted that it will cooperate with the ruling party on non-political issues.
