Hudud is Different from IS, Taliban’s Laws

Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has defended hudud, maintaining that it is different from the laws applied by militant groups such as the Islamic State (IS) and the Taliban.

“We are not like them, as we are of the view that IS and Taliban are governing Islamic countries without a strong foundation.

“It is un-Islamic to simply implement hudud or killing without following true Islamic teachings. That is not the way of Islam,” he said a speech during a PAS Youth dialogue exchange meet here on Saturday.

The PAS president said the party was obliged to accept and engage in discussions with Umno following an invitation to talk on Islamic law.

“We assume everyone is sincere and (we) do not meddle into others’ business.

“Whether they are sincere or not, we leave it to God. That was why we had the discussion,” he said.

On another note, Abdul Hadi said PAS’ recent internal problems were not as big as previous crises that had caused many party members to quit and join other parties.

“What is being played up in the media right now is just a small thing (ringan sangat) if compared to older times.
“Just as the issues are hotly being played up, we received 10,000 new party members last month,” he said.
