An underground tunnel which is under construction caved in following a pipe burst at Jalan Imbi, here, today.
In the 9.30am incident, the pipe burst was believed to have caused a 19 metre tunnel cave in.
City Fire and Rescue Department deputy director Azizan Ismail said the five metre depth tunnel is an underground project for a four lane road connecting Jalan Imbi to Jalan Pudu.
“We had to order the KL Monorail operators to suspend operations to avoid any mishaps as there are still soil movement,” he said.
Azizan said they received a distress call at 10.38am and firemen from the Hang Tuah station were deployed to the scene.
Firemen had placed markings on the ground to monitor the movement of the ground.
Azizan said so far no injuries were reported.-NST
