Likening the Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) recent eviction of Kg Chubadak Tambahan’s villagers to an “ethnic cleansing”, PAS today urged the Barisan Nasional (BN) government to disclose the identities of the developers awarded projects there.
According to the Islamist opposition party, Malays had settled in the village and surrounding area in Sentul but the community is now being displaced by firms that had not held any previous interest in the land.
“We will not hesitate to campaign and lobby international bodies if the government insists on continuing what I called an ethnic cleansing,” said Mazlan Aliman, who heads PAS’ bureau of land, urban explorers and Orang Asal affairs.
“This is an effort to destroy the interests of the Malays, who were the original settlers exploring the area.”
Mazlan pointed out to previous displacements and evictions in other age-old Malay villages such as Kg Kerinchi and Kg Abdullah Hukum, which were subsequently developed by non-Bumiputera firms.
“These villages were settled 95 per cent by Malays, but then suddenly the firms who were awarded the rights to develop the area are not Bumiputera firms. This is unfortunate,” Mazlan told reporters.- themalaymailonline
