KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu police are in the midst of tracking down a foreigner who robbed and raped a cybercafe worker last month in Padang Hiliran here.
In the noon incident on Aug 27, the man came to the outlet on the pretext of being a patron after it was opened for business by the victim who was alone at the time.
The man pretended to use the computer and when the 24-year-old woman tried to assist him, he pulled out a knife and threatened her.
“He then tied the victim’s hands and legs, taped her mouth and raped her. Robbing the woman of her cash and valuables totalling RM4,000, the man then fled the scene,” state CID chief ACP K. Manoharan told a media conference here today.
He said the 40-year-old man had visited the shop twice to buy pre-paid cards.
“We are in the midst of tracking the man down. Our investigations revealed he sports a tattoo of a centipede on the left thigh and a tattoo of foreign writings on the left hand.
“We believe he is a foreigner,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Terengganu police have detected an illegal organisation which is no longer active in the state.
Manoharan said many of the organisation’s members had left the group.
However, he said, the police were keeping tabs on the former members to ensure they were not involved in criminal activities in the state.
“We also found that most of the group members had joined charity bodies registered with the Registrar of Societies,” he told a media conference here today.
Manoharan said since ‘Ops Cantas’ was launched on Aug 17, 1,809 individuals were screened before five suspects were detained for various offences. — BERNAMA
