Perikatan Nasional is prepared to forego cooperation with Barisan Nasional in the Melaka state election if the latter chooses to work with Pakatan Harapan.

PAS President Tan Sri Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang said that while the PN coalition was confident it could pursue alternative strategies, discussions were still ongoing among its leaders, particularly on cooperation with BN for the Melaka state election.

He said no final decision had been made, although a majority of BN leaders were understood to favour continuing cooperation with PN.

“We have been informed that the BN leadership remains divided and hesitant, even though the majority of the party’s leaders agree that cooperation with PN should continue,” he said after delivering his Dhuha lecture at Masjid Rusila today.

Ustaz Hadi said PAS and PN had several strategies and alternatives to strengthen Malay and Islamic political unity, as well as cooperation with non-extreme non-Muslim parties.

“PAS is confident that the negotiation process and the formation of political cooperation ahead of the Melaka state election will be easier compared with the situation during the Johor state election on July 11,” he said.

He said the confidence was based on feedback and positive responses received at the grassroots level, taking into account the current national political scenario.

“The situation in the Johor state election was more complicated, but the path and conditions in Melaka are easier,” he said. – NST
